Undiksha with its main mission is to work in the field of education, always trying to improve the quality of education services. Efforts to improve the quality of education are carried out, one of which is by coaching students to become Peer Tutors at Counseling Guidance Technical Implementation Unit (UPT BK) Services, Peer Tutors will provide convenience in providing counseling guidance services for students who have problems in academic, personal and career fields. To be able to carry out their duties, it is deemed necessary to provide training and increase the professionalism of Peer Tutors in relation to personal, career, and social issues, where the Peer Tutor team will receive training in the science of counseling guidance services, so that they can later provide service strategies with group or individual way.
Peer Tutor is a person or several students who are appointed and assigned to help their peers who have learning difficulties. The interaction between peers has a strong influence on academic motivation and achievement. The social life that arises during Peer Tutor activities can benefit both the tutor and the tutored parties by motivating the counselee to learn and improve social life among peers.
This activity aims to provide knowledge and skills to the Peer Tutor team regarding counseling skills in its implementation in the field when dealing with peers.
This training activity was held on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, which took place in the Undiksha Auditorium, and the training brought together experts, namely the academician Mrs. Putu Rahayu Ujiti, S, Psi., M.Psi. Psychologist. and Mr. Adek Kurniawan Saputra, S.Pd,. M.Pd. who is a teacher at the Undiksha Laboratory Junior High School.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Cooperation Undiksha Dr. Gede Rasben Dantes, S.T., M.T.I. in his speech gave appreciation to students who participated as peer tutors. Also conveyed, Peer Tutor as a medium to build collaboration skills, communication skills, creative thinking, critical thinking, compassion, and computational thinking in this 4.0 revolution era. He further stated, as a university, the main thing for Undiksha is to be able to produce graduates who are superior, competent, have strong characters, and are creative. In addition, it is not only able to find a job, but the most important thing is to create a job. Realizing that, the role of UPT BK and peer tutors is considered very important to foster student enthusiasm in studying and working.
In addition to receiving training, Peer Tutors are also inaugurated by handing over certificates of appreciation to Peer Tutors. This moment is a symbolic of Peer Tutor’s readiness to provide counseling and guidance services to students.
